Liane Slaughter is a student of life, who really enjoys mixing things together and seeing what happens. She traversed the country in the shape of a smile in her scientific pursuits; after a Bachelor degree in chemistry from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, she warmed up while studying for her chemistry PhD at Rice University in Houston, Texas, then joined UCLA as a postdoc in 2013. She has studied transparent and non-conductive nanogold, an unusual and fascinating platform for potentially controlling the surface chemistry of transparent materials. She also loves trail running, hiking, the ocean, choral singing, languages, cooking, and brewing.
