Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, responsibilities include the study of carbohydrate mediated effects on cancer growth. Areas of research include but are not restricted to (1) the initiation, establishment, maintenance and regulation of carbohydrate uptake and transport (GLUT) knockout cells, (2) how carbohydrates are metabolized using stable isotope dynamic profiling and/or act as transcription factors to regulate gene expression ropagation of heterochromatin chromatin, (3) generation of small molecule inhibitors of carbohydrate action for translational studies.
The candidate should hold a Ph.D. degree, be highly self-motivated with significant molecular biology and/or biochemistry laboratory experience, have the drive to excel in scientific research, and possess a good publication history. A background in gene expression/
regulation, bioinformatics, and/or metabolomics is preferred.
Duties and Tasks:
A. Laboratory Skills
1. Establish and maintain carbohydrate uptake and transport (GLUT) knockout cells.
2. Assist in generation of small molecule inhibitors of carbohydrate action for translational studies
3. Use stable isotope dynamic profiling and characterize of transcription factors that regulate gene expression related to CHO metabolism.
B. Administrative Support
1. Provide general administrative support to the research team as needed.
2. Perform data collection, data entry, data reporting, data management, data analysis and data presentation.
3. Assist in preparing reports for agencies, data analysis, presentations, manuscripts, regulatory documents and project budgets.
Skills, knowledge and abilities:
-Strong interpersonal skills for interaction to communicate diplomatically and effectively with faculty, peers, patients, physicians, collaborators, researchers, administrators, and University faculty and staff.
-Demonstrated skill in problem solving, prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely and efficient manner, maintaining confidentiality of data and using discretion and judgment in responding to inquiries and releasing information.
-Skill in performing all direct and direct and indirect patient care functions.
-Ability to work as a team and work independently with minimal direction.
-Demonstrated skills in using PC computer, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and Windows applications.
-Skills to obtain or convey clear information at various organizational levels.
-Ability to work flexible hours including weekends.
-Ability to transmit correspondence by facsimile.
-Ability to shift priorities and adapt to changes.
