According to a recent National Science Foundation estimate, there are presently more than 89,000 postdoctoral scholars working in research in the United States. This figure represents only those postdocs who received their PhD in the U.S. If the number of postdocs who received their doctorate elsewhere is added to that figure, it grows substantially. Because the number of academic, tenure-track positions has hardly increased during the last decade, many postdocs have opted for other careers. In fact, the biggest single cohort (40+%) of these individuals will elect to move to jobs—and careers—in industry.
In an effort to promote its new professional masters program for postdoctoral fellows in science and engineering, Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) will preview the program on Tuesday, August 4, from 10 a.m. to 1p.m. on the KGI campus. The Preview and Program Design Event will include a welcome from KGI President Sheldon Schuster, a curriculum overview, and breakout sessions with CEOs and other leaders in the biotech industry. Lunch will be served following the program.
