During this great post-doc-mons lunch (thanks Eileen!), I mentionned a book that I found inspiring for my parenting style.
Here it is, and some more resources.
--- Maria Montessori "Secret of Childhood" and also "The Absorbent Mind"
This amazing women gives insights on the way children grow up, and on how they have this powerful drive to learn.
--- Thomas Gordon "Parent Effectiveness Training"
I found this book very helpful not only with my daughter, but also with my husband, my boss, my friends, ... It's a communication skills thing.
In a more global approach to human being and education, I appreciated :
--- A. S. Neill "Summerhill"
A radical, optimistic and humanitarian vision of freedom.
--- Alice Miller "For your own good"
The concept of "black pedagogy" and how "educational" violence reproduces itself from generation to generation.
Eileen, from what you said, I guess the childcare of your daughter considers the findings of the Loczy center : http://www.aipl.org/ (Very interesting)
I guess we're all bookworms. I can't wait to read your inputs on that topic.
cheers
