SoPS Banner Discussion (from Eric and Jacob)

SoPS Banner Discussion (from Eric and Jacob)

Hey Everyone,

In response to Ajay's email about flyering, what is your opinion about
making a banner or large poster that we can display at every
SoPS-sponsored event?

This would certainly work well with social functions, bbq's etc.

A large banner would be good but certainly not available in time for tomorrow.

Ajay's flyers mentioned in this post could certainly be used...

What would our objective with the flyers be? People going to the Amgen thing already know about us since they RSVP'd on the website or saw a flyer.

Do we want them to hand them out to other postdocs? Or do we want to give them more information?

Those posters are eye candy style attention grabbers to get people that haven't heard of us to go to our website?

I think for tomorrow's event it might be better to have a more informative flyer with details of coming events or ways to get involved? We could put some of this around the edge of the existing flyers but then it all gets a bit busy....

Re: SoPS Banner Discussion (from Eric and Jacob)

Hmm, I was thinking more on the lines of Jean-Luc where 50 registered and 100 showed...

Leaving room for such who know of the even from bulletin boards, and to reinforce in the minds of those who have visited us only once, a bit of eye-candy costs us peanuts and stands atleast a few benefits... As Lynn points out another aspect of SoPS that deviates from career oriented event such as Amgen is that we are also a fun bunch of beer-guzzlin people - it does not hurt to get that message out as well.

So I would say place a few of these on the table for the noobies and a few of the details for those who know of us and want to know more - or **better yet**... conserve paper and put it (the details) on the backside of the same. whatsay??

Sounds like a plan... our color printer isn't going to like you though!

Which one... hmmm...

Why not some of Marge and Some of Homer... possibly change the text on Marge to:

'Chronic overachiever with a PhD and a trunkfull of awards?'

Otherwise I think it's a go... screw printing on the back... they can come to the website...
