Update on university housing policy

This just in from our University administration liason, Kyle Cunningham:

The housing policy rules differ with respect to postdocs who are single versus postdocs with dependent children. Sorry for any confusion with earlier announcements, we supplied the information as we were given.

Housing policy states that: "University Housing will be available to single postdoctoral scholars for a period of two years, as supply is available. University Housing will be available to new postdoctoral scholars with dependent children for as long as the individual is participating in a postgraduate program, as supply is available."

Also, to quote the 05-06 Resident Handbook: "In accordance with the policy guidelines established by the UCLA Housing Master Plan, Goal 4 stipulates the following: 'the campus acknowledges the important contributions of postdoctoral scholars and the importance of housing as a resource to support postdoctoral scholars. After demand for housing among graduate and professional students has been met, UCLA will offer housing to postdoctoral scholars for a period of two years for single postdoctoral scholars and for the duration of the program for postdoctoral scholars with dependent children.'"

We are looking into the policy guidelines for how single postdocs will be affected. It looks like this means that postdocs who apply for new housing might be turned away or wait-listed for long periods during times of high demand.
