a new post-doc, need some info

Hi,
My name is Ali. I recently got a post-doc at UCLA. Right now I am in OPT (Optioan practical training) but I want to switch into a H1-B visa.
Will there anyone out there who can give me some info about where to start and where to get the required applications, and who might be a good lawyer to talk with?

You first want to talk to someone at OISS (Office for International Students and Scholars at Bradley) - they will tell you exactly what needs to be done by you, the department, the PI and also direct you to their recommended lawyers.
Remember that H1b s are very restrictive in work description and very expensive considering that the university outsources all its initial H1 visa applications and you will need to retain a lawyer.

i received an email to provide some info using glaciar for tax purposes.
in one the questions, it asks what is the estimated of final departure time from US? in fact, right now I am in OPT but very soon I will change the status, and I am not sure what to answer.
are you aware of such situations?

You shoudl really consult someone in your department's payroll office on this. (i.e. I am not sure about how things vary between departments.) But, I would guess that your departure time would be the end of your postdoc contract (see your offer letter).

I will be really appreciated if anyone can help me to find a good one, since my insurance is HMO and as you know I have to choose a doctor myself from their list.
