Hello
I will work in the Kornblum's laboratory as a postdoctoral fellow. (I have a swiss grant for one year).
I will arrive at UCLA around the 1st of February. I am looking for a housing near the campus.
Do you have any suggestion regarding the housing?
Thank you for your attention.
Best regards

I think you have three options:
1) UCLA housing - ~$800/mo
http://www.housing.ucla.edu
2) Share with someone ~$500-1000/mo
Ask people on this forum, look in losangeles.craigslist.com or other rental websites.
3) Find your own place to rent. ~$1000-1500/mo. Most of the rentals in the UCLA area are done through Westside Rentals:

In general, if you are prepared to go slightly away from campus you will find something cheaper.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

I just moved here with my family from europe. we were lucky to be able to stay for the first month with family of my wife, and had time to drive around. we just asked at apartments that had a vacancy sign in front and found something nice without paying for a listing.
maybe somebody in your new lab can let you stay with them for a week or two, a hotel would be very expensive. Then you would have time to find something from here.
Certainly worth to try to contact university housing if they can give you something the day you arrive- allthough I had the impression I needed to physically be here to make the necessary application (maybe somebody from your lab can help). The good thing would be that you can always move out after a month if you find something better.
good luck, Berny
