Hello,
As you read, my name is Evelina. We emigrated from Republic of Moldova a month ago. We are officially in USA as refugees. In January I’ve taken my PhD in economics and economic doctrines, dissertation topic Informal institutions and their role in the economic development. I want to continue my research as postdoc. I tried to find the necessary information, but I’m not international student/specialist, and not yet USA citizen/rezident, but I have the permission to work. What can you advice to do in my situation, how real is to be accepted as postdoc in an Californian university?
Thanks in advance,
Evelina

March 1, 2006 - 11:55am — adminDear Evilina,
Thanks for contacting SoPS. Unfortunately we don't have any specific information regarding postdoc positions and I am not aware of any such list at this time. I would advise you to check the UCLA Economics department website and look through potential faculty sponsors.
http://www.econ.ucla.edu/contacts/facultydirectory.html
You should contact them directly to find out whether they would be willing / able to take you on as a postdoc. You should also look at the Graduate Division website for more general information:
http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/postdocs.html
According to the postdoc directory there are currently no postdocs in the department of Economics - I fear this is a bad sign.
http://www.gdnet.ucla.edu/gss/postdocdir/default.asp
You should also look at Anderson School of Management, USC, Caltech, and other UC campuses. You should be able to apply to regular jobs - especially with your PhD qualifications.
Good luck,
Graham

The SOPS is a great idea; it’s very useful and I think I will be your frequent guest
Thanks again and good luck,

Do I need to contact "trascript office" or "indivisual department"?
In advance, thank you guys
