Information for new postdoc

Information for new postdoc

I am a new PI and I have my first Postdoc starting next week. He is coming
from South Korea and I want to make sure that he has access to a
postdoctoral community and activities so that he can integrate into life
in America. Is there a buddy system for new postdocs to help them get
started so that the entire experience is not too overwhelming for him and
his wife. Any help would be much appreciated

there is a momthly pub night

there is a momthly pub night where postdocs gather,
he will find plenty of useful information on the postdoc website
and please do not offer the lowest possible postdoc salery, it is very hard to survive on that in LA.

Hi, I'm not aware of a buddy system, however there are frequent SOPS social events - over coffee, pubnights, etc - that are great for meeting other postdocs. If he would find it useful to connect with others from South Korea, we also have a new postdoc from there in our department. Email me at esloan [at] ucla [dot] edu if you'd like to connect them.
