A degree certificate is a must for new H1B visa as a postdoc? What about conferment letter?

I am now outside of US, the professor agree to help applying H1B. I just made oral defense and only have PhD degree conferment letter from the University. The degree scroll is only ready near July.

Anyone has similar experience and what happened then? For applying H1B, how long it will take from the starting point by a faster procedure?

You should contact 1) your future department and 2) Dashew Center for International Scholars & Students (http://www.internationalcenter.ucla.edu/VisaServices.aspx?viewID=2&subvi...) about this. They may be able to accept a provisional certificate or letter from your current department indicating you have completed all the PhD formalities. It worked for me. I went to my university and got the degree certificate a month after joining as a postdoc.
