Dear Colleagues,
The month of May is "Bike Month", next week "Bike to Work Week", and May 15th is celebrated nationwide as Bike to Work Day 2008!
UCLA is co-sponsoring three days of freebies and refreshments to celebrate this efficient means of transport. As detailed in the attached flier [2], between May 13-15th, there are free refreshments and prizes at three locations on campus. Also included is a coupon for a *FREE* tune-up or flat-tire service at the UCLA Community Bike Shop.
Campus Pit-Stops (Free Refreshments & Prizes)
* Tuesday, May 13, 7:30-9:30 a.m.
at Westwood Blvd. and LeConte Ave.
* Wednesday, May 14, 7:30-9:30 a.m.
at the Dental Breezeway along Tiverton Ave.
south of Charles E. Young Drive.
* Thursday, May 15, 10 a.m.-noon at Bruin Plaza.
In addition to the above, on May 15th, LA's Metro service has coordinated similar pit-stops all over the city. Check these out on your way to work for refreshments and other goodies. (resource #9 below)
NOTE: Please use the resources below to plan your commute carefully (resources #1,2 & 6 below). First-time bike commuters are strongly urged to familiarize themselves with the rules of the road and the LA bike safety code (see resource #3 or #8 for a comprehensive beginners guide).
Please mark your calendars to help keep the air cleaner, get in shape, keep your gas expenses low and the streets full of color.
Sincerely,
Ajay Gopal (Postdoc, Chemistry & Biochemistry)
