The hike is on! There’s now a 0% chance of rain until 1PM (when we expect to finish), but please be extra sure to arrive on time — we will start promptly to ensure our return before the rain starts later in the afternoon. You may wish to bring an umbrella and/or raincoat just in case.
The joint campus postdoc hike series is back for 2015! Join all LA-area postdocs and friends this Saturday, February 7th at 10 AM as we explore one of the most popular locations in all of LA LA land! This moderate, 5 mile round-trip hike with 1000 feet of elevation gain starts with a steep 150 step “hidden” staircase, proceeds through the neighborhood to exposed trails in Griffith Park, and ends on the hill just behind the Hollywood sign, with majestic views of both the city and San Fernando Valley!
Please join us on Wednesday, November 19th at 7PM as UCLA postdoc Michael Weinstein presents “The Genetics of Skeletal Dysplasias” at the Mint on Pico Blvd. The evening includes two other “nerdy” but fun talks as well. We have very limited seating available for LA-area postdocs at Michael’s booth. If you’re interested, read on.
For the next Nerd Nite event on Tuesday, October 14th at 7PM at the Mint on Pico Blvd we have TWO postdoc speakers — Drs. Shirley Lomeli and Anjie Zhen. Seating with the speakers is completely full, but a group of LA-area postdocs will be arriving early to try to snag a non-reserved table. If you’re interested, read on.

The Caltech Postdoc Association is organizing a hike up to Echo Mountain on Independence Day (Friday, 4 July) and you are invited! Echo Mountain is a 3000 ft (1000m) peak located behind Pasadena which can provide views as far away as Catalina Island if the weather is cooperative. Many cities in the area celebrate the 4th of July by shooting off fireworks, so we will be able to watch the fireworks from many different cities across the San Gabriel Valley and LA. However, we will be hiking up the mountain in the late afternoon and it will be hot and dry. Please come prepared with water. We will then hike back down in the darkness, so it would be wise to bring a source of light.
Please join us Saturday, June 7th at 10:30AM as we join other LA-area postdocs on a hike to the highest peak in the Santa Monica Mountains!
