Meeting with Graduate Division

Fellow Postdocs,

Members of the SoPS executive committee and I met today with John Richardson (Associate Dean of the Graduate Division) and Kyle Cunningham (Postdoctoral and Visiting Scholar Services Coordinator) to discuss recent issues affecting postdoctoral scholars. The main focus of our meeting concerned reports from several SoPS members that they had been contacted by representatives from the PRO/UAW union and asked to sign a card. Dear UCLA Postdoctoral Scholars, Mentors & PDS Appointment Administrators,

The Graduate Division is pleased to announce the launch of its new and improved website: www.gdnet.ucla.edu.

Many changes have been made to the postdoctoral scholar section, including easy references to the APM 390 and information for prospective scholars. Much of the content has been reorganized, which we hope will make your visits to the site more pleasant and easy to traverse. Additionally, visiting scholars now have their own section, thus enabling us to devote a dedicated section to postdoctoral scholars. Read more »

CHANCELLOR’S AWARD FOR POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH

DEANS, CHAIRS, PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATORS AND MEMBERS OF THE UCLA COMMUNITY

I am pleased to invite all faculty to submit nominations for the Chancellor’s Award for Postdoctoral Research. This award will provide a prize of $3,000 each to especially accomplished UCLA postdoctoral scholars recognized for their outstanding research. The prize was established in 1998 to acknowledge the remarkable contributions and integral role of our postdoctoral scholars to the research mission of the University. Read more »

SoPS General Meeting this Thursday

Time has flown by and it is now 6 months since the society's first general meeting where we elected officers and setup committees. In that time each committee has been active in organizing many successful events and advocating for improved quality of life for postdocs.
